The Hurricanes Junior League Stage 1 and Stage 2 sees a shift in many areas of the game:
- Games are played on a synthetic cricket pitch, rather than the outfield grass of the
Cricket Blast programs.
- The soft rubber ball is replaced with a hard leather cricket ball.
- Pads, gloves, helmets etc are required to be worn.
- Scores are kept.
It could be said that this is where “real” cricket begins. Games are still somewhat modified,
but things are staritng to feel a lot more like what we see at Blundstone Arena and on the TV.
To get a full understanding of the rules and playing formats, please see the below links:
Stage 1 matches are played on a Monday evening and Stage 2 on a Wednesday evening.
Each team is coached by a volunteer coach (usually a parent/carer from the team…and
don’t stress, you don’t need to be the next Justin Langer to do this!) and each team will
also need to be responsible for ground setups and pack ups as well as scoring. The more
people that get involved with each team, the lighter the loads. All scoring is done on an
easy to use phone/tablet app and we will be running training sessions on scoring as the
season draws nearer.
